What does this site measure?

Analytics on this site are optional. Until you accept, no analytics script loads and no analytics cookie is set. After you accept, Google Analytics counts page views and a few clicks, and Microsoft Clarity records masked sessions and heat maps, each with its own cookies. Serving the site is not analytics: the hosting service, Vercel, and the media host, Cloudflare, process each request, your network address and the page or file you asked for, in order to answer it, as any web server must.

Before you accept

No analytics script loads and no analytics cookie is set. The prompt appears once, at the bottom of the page, with equal Accept and Reject buttons. Your answer is kept in this browser's storage, nowhere else.

Google Analytics

Google Analytics receives the page address without any search or filter text, the referring site's address without its page, the page title, the category of an outside link you open (LinkedIn, Medium, CodePen, GitHub, Threads, X, YouTube, nanaos.co or other), a contact click, a work card click, and how far down an article you read: a quarter, half, three quarters, the end.

It sets first party cookies named _ga and _ga_ followed by the property id. They hold a random identifier, so that visits can be counted as sessions. With analytics alone, every advertising signal is denied: no Google account data, no advertising identifier, no age or interest reporting, and never personalised advertising.

Microsoft Clarity

Microsoft Clarity records clicks, scrolling and pointer movement and replays them as session recordings and heat maps. The project runs with strict masking, so the text on the page and anything you type are masked in recordings. Clarity sets first party cookies named _clck and _clsk.

Clarity runs only on the home page, on public article pages and on this page, and only when the address carries nothing but campaign parameters and a section anchor. It never runs on the repository's search and filter pages. Clarity also reads the address of the page you came from, so it is not loaded on a visit that arrives from a repository search, from any page of this site it may not record, or from another site's address that carries more than that site's name.

Audience insights, a separate choice

Off unless you turn them on below, and only after accepting analytics. When on, Google Analytics may use Google signals for your visit: if you are signed in to a Google account with Ads Personalisation turned on in that account, Google can associate the visit with that account's advertising data to report an age bracket, a gender and interest categories, aggregated with other visitors and shown only above Google's reporting thresholds. Many visits stay "unknown". This grants Google's advertising storage and advertising user data consent for the visit, which Google also uses to recognise the same person across devices in its reports. Personalised advertising stays denied, this site runs no advertising, and it links no advertising account. What Google associates with your account is yours to see and delete in your Google account, under My Activity (myactivity.google.com).

Turning audience insights off, here or in another tab, removes that grant for every open page of this site and reloads them. Your analytics choice stays as it was.

What is never sent on purpose

Names, email addresses, passwords, search text, filter choices and the text of password protected articles. A private page loads no analytics at all, and the site always opens a private page as a new document, so nothing recorded on a public page follows you there.

Changing your mind

Reject below, or come back here from the footer, at any time. The page reloads, the cookies named above are removed from this browser, and nothing more is sent. Data that Google or Microsoft already received stays with them for the retention period set in each account: Google Analytics keeps event level data for 14 months, the longest setting the property offers, and Microsoft Clarity keeps recordings for the period set in its project.
